Whose Batting Stance is More Metrosexual?

I don’t want to say that Kevin Youkilis looks kind of prissy when he’s up at bat, but honestly, he does. Ashtyn pointed out his little, rotating hip wiggle (frankly, I wasn’t really paying attention to him hitting) earlier this year during a Boston-Detroit baseball game. Since then, I honestly get the giggles (I know, not very manly of me), every time I see him bat. All I can say is wow!

While this isn’t the best footage of it, and you can certainly see it better the next time you see Boston play on television, check out this video of Youkilis at bat to see what I’m talking about!

After seeing Kevin Youkilis bat in one of the most interesting ways (many of the big leaguers have batting stances, but some of them - like Jim Thome’s elaborate batting ritual before he used to bat when he was with the Cleveland Indians) are more annoying than entertaining.

Earlier this year, in one of the games played at Yankee Stadium between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees (the three games the Tigers won to sweep the Yankees), I noticed another batter with a very interesting, somewhat effeminate batting stance. That just happens to be Bobby Abreu. I was so amused by his stance I made Ashtyn watch him every time he was up at bat, just so we could get a laugh.

Feel free to check out Abreu’s stance in this video below and compare it with Youkilis’ stance. Again, this isn’t as easy to see since it is taken by a fan in the stands, but Bobby’s hip thrust is so prominent it is visible from far away!

So, having seen both videos what do you think? Who is more prissy in their stance, Mr. Kevin “Fairy Dancer” Youkilis or Mr. Bobby “Hip Thruster” Abreu? Feel free to leave your opinion by posting a comment!
