Jake LongThis is a live action announcement. As the draft is happening, the winners will be announced, and we’ll have them listed within a few moments after they’ve been chosen.

#1 - Miami Dolphins - Jake Long

There was no big surprise that Michigan Offensive Tackle, Jake Long, would be the first pick of the draft. The Miami Dolphins announced their choice of Long four days prior to the draft picking. As the first draft, Long feels incredibly honored. He made it clear that he plans to go out and prove he was worth being the first pick of the draft. The Dolphins, who had the worst season of any NFL team, could use plenty of help to turn their losing record around. Jake Long won’t be able to do it alone, so hopefully their additional 2008 picks will compliment their choice in him. I’d hate to see Long go to a team he can’t do anything with, since he’s such an amazing player as it is.

#2 - St. Louis Rams - Chris Long

There was a lot of speculation into who would go second. Since Jake Long was taken, the list of hopefuls include Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey. The Defensive End from Virginia was said to be shoe in for the selection by the Rams and that is exactly what happened. While it was said that the Rams initially wanted Glenn Dorsey, in the past week, they settled on Long and after some last minute deliberations decided to go with Long, after all.

#3 - Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan

The Falcons suffered greatly with the loss of QB Michael Vick. That is why Matt Ryan was considered the selection to make for the Falcons. Other QB options include Michigan’s Chad Henne, but Ryan was the favorite going into the draft. The Falcons really seem to like the effort by Glenn Dorsey, but they’re hurting sorely without any type of successful QB so prior to the pick there is a lot of speculation as to who will be selected #3.

The Falcons went the safe route and chose Ryan, the QB from Boston College who blew everyone out of the water with his performance in the 2007-2008 NCAA Football season. Matt’s goal is to go down to Atlanta and help them to start winning games.

#4 - Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden

There is a lot of talk over whether the Raiders plan to take Glenn Dorsey or Darren McFadden. They had a decent year last year, after a terrible 2006-2007 season. They’re pretty much open as far as their choices go. They could use improvement in the areas where they hope to improve. The key is to find someone to help take pressure off the young, Raiders QB, JaMarcus Russell.

The selection of McFadden makes perfect sense. He can help Russell out and he’s the best RB from the NCAA season. He’s also versatile as a player. Of course, fans of the Jets aren’t necessarily happy with this selection because many of them wanted McFadden for their team.

#5 - Kansas City Chiefs - Glenn Dorsey

Well, Glenn finally got selected. He was said to be contending for the last four spots, and finally the Chiefs nab him. This is an amazing pick because this is the first pick of anyone from either LSU or OSU (the supposed two best teams in the BCS). Dorsey is considered the best Defensive Tackle in the NCAA. Glenn is excited to be a Chief and he’s happy to know that he can help the defense for the team. It was a happy day for him.
