This is a live action announcement. As the draft is happening, the winners will be announced, and we’ll have them listed within a few moments after they’ve been chosen.
#6 - New York Jets - Vernon Gholston
The Jets have had a relatively successful past few years. Right now, the selection could be just about anyone. After LSU got selected, OSU had their first man go. Vernon is a Defensive End and the Jets fans seem to be excited. Of course, I’m a Michigan fan and don’t like the Jets so they can have him!
#7 - New Orleans Saints - Sedrick Ellis
The Saints had success choosing Reggie Bush from USC a few years earlier. They go back to USC to choose Defensive End Sedrick Ellis. The Saints traded up their #10 spot with the New England Patriots. The Saints could really use some help on the defensive end and the assistance of Ellis should help improve the team greatly.
#8 - Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Harvey
The Jaguars need their defense improved, as well. They move up several selections as they trade up with Baltimore. This is quite an amazing selection trade, but I like the Jags so I have no complaints (as of yet) until I hear who they’ve selected. The Jags picked Harvey from Florida. I’m not very pleased with this selection. I just hope he helps the Defense since he’s considered one of the better Defensive Ends from the BCS. This wasn’t a surprise selection, but it still wasn’t my favorite.
#9 - Cincinnati Bengals - Keith Rivers
Another USC selection. Rivers seemed quite excited when he picked up the phone to hear he’ll be playing for the Bengals. This linebacker choice is one of the most versatile players from USC. Cincinnati is really going to need to count on him to improve their record this year.
#10 - New England Patriots - Jerod Mayo
They have the best record in NFL history. They made it to the Super Bowl and were one game away from a perfect record. Like the Jets they can choose where to tighten up their team and tweak it to make it better. The Patriots decided to trade their spot with the New Orleans Saints. They have moved from the #7 selection to the #10 selection.
Their choice of Mayo was slightly unexpected, but he’s a good fit for the best team in the NFL. He’s a smart player and this linebacker will fit in well with the team.
