This is a live action announcement. As the draft is happening, the winners will be announced, and we’ll have them listed within a few moments after they’ve been chosen.
#11 – Buffalo Bills – Leodis McKelvin
The Bills took Cornerback Leodis McKelvin from Troy. This is a pretty interesting pick since Troy isn’t one of the biggest schools out there, but the Bills could use a good Corner and McKelvin is one of the best in the country.
#12 – Denver Broncos – Ryan Clady
The Denver Broncos choose an Offensive Tackle from Boise State. While Clady is a great player, he has the size and speed to turn the Broncos into the kind of tackle they need to improve their team.
#13 – Carolina Panthers – Jonathan Stewart
The Panthers chose a running back, this one from Oregon, to help improve the team’s offense. While he’s had some problem with injuries in the past, he’ll be ready to go once the NFL teams enter their training camps.
#14 – Chicago Bears – Chris Williams
Despite the experts swearing the Bears needed to purchase a running back, they chose a defensive tackle from Vanderbuilt. Boy were they wrong in trying to guess who the Bears were going to pick.
#15 – Kansas City Chiefs – Branden Albert
The first team to get two picks is Kansas City. They traded places with the Detroit Lions (I can only imagine what they had to trade to get Detroit to give up their first pick) so they could take Branden Albert, a guard from Virginia.
#16 – Arizona Cardinals – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Another team they were predicting would choose a Running Back decided to go with Tennessee State Corner Back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. While he’s a good player, the experts had to wonder if he was tough enough to help the Cardinals out. He has the speed and skill, but he might not have the strength to make it in the ways the Cardinals are going to need him the most.
#17 – Detroit Lions – Gosder Cherilus
Another tackle gets chosen and this time he’s from Boston College. Hoping to improve their offense, the Detroit Lions have chosen Gosder Cherilus. By this point, the announcers have seemed to have lost some of their enthusiasm since they aren’t sure who to predict for the next few picks.
#18 -Baltimore Ravens – Joe Flacco
Houston has decided to allow Baltimore to take their slot. Considering they traded with the Jags, who had a much later first pick this is an improvement for the Ravens, who desperately need a QB. After all, they chose Troy Smith last year and he flopped during his first year performance.
#19 – Carolina Panthers – Jeff Otah
The Carolina Panthers traded for a second pick with the Philadelphia Eagles. Rather than picking a QB as was predicted, they chose an offensive tackle, Jeff Otah. Otah played for Pittsburgh and while he’s being called ‘rough around the edges’ he might just make a nice addition to a mediocre Panthers team.
#20 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Aqib Talib
The Bucs need a wide receiver and they’ve made it clear they plan to choose a wide receiver. Unfortunately, they haven’t chosen one during this selection. Aqib is a cornerback from Kansas. He has the ability to play wide receiver, and this could actually work out to their advantage.
#21 – Atlanta Falcons – Sam Baker
The Washington Falcons switched their first pick with the Atlanta Falcons, who take their second pick. They chose Sam Baker, the offensive tackle from USC. The OTs are getting picked off so the Falcons must have decided to act while they could.
#22 – Dallas Cowboys – Felix Jones
Despite the ESPN vote where fans said they didn’t want Dallas Cowboys to select RB Felix Jones. Jones played second fiddle to Darren McFadden at Arkansas, but he’s managed to clench a first round pick thanks to the Dallas Cowboys’ pick.
#23 – Pittsburgh Steelers – Radhard Mendenhall
Mendenhall is a RB from Illinois. This big ten player was a surprise selection, but was ultimately a good pick for the Steelers who are suffering offensively.
#24 – Tennessee Titans – Chris Johnson
Another RB has been selected. This time, the Tennessee Titans have selected Chris Johnson from East Carolina. He’s productive as a runner, he can catch, and he’s quite good as a returner. Johnson is a versatile pick for the Titans who could use some speed on their team.
#25 – Dallas Cowboys – Mike Jenkins
The Seattle Seahawks traded the Cowboys, who have their second pick of the draft. They’ve chosen cornerback. With the versatility of a wide receiver, the South Florida back they chose is Mike Jenkins.
#26 – Houston Texans – Duane Brown
Defensive Tackle has been added to the Texans lineup. The Texans traded for the #26 pick with the Baltimore Ravens. Brown comes from Virginia Tech.
#27 – San Diego Chargers – Antoine Cason.
In their only pick until the fifth round (for now), the San Diego Chargers have chosen cornerback, Antoine Cason from Arizona. Cason was chosen for his speed and overall performance in the Pac 10.
#28 – Seattle Seahawks – Lawrence Jackson
The Seattle Seahawks chose for the first time after swapping positions with the Cowboys. The Seahawks ended up choosing a Defensive End in a surprise selection. They chose USC’s Lawrence Jackson.
#29 – San Francisco 49ers – Kentwan Balmer
While the 49ers really need help with their offense (hello? QB anyone?) they decided to bolster their defense instead by taking another defensive tackle. Kentwan comes from North Carolina.
#30 – New York Jets – Dustin Keller
The New York Jets switched with the Green Bay Packers. The speculation is that the Jets have decided to choose a QB or RB, but right now they haven’t announced the pick. This could mean Chad Henne or Devin Thomas could be the Jets choice. Other speculation is a WR or TE pick. Right now, the favorite is Thomas. While the Jets fans seem to have mixed reactions, the Jets chose a Tight End with Purdue’s Dustin Keller.
#31 – New York Giants -Kenny Phillips
The final draft pick of the first round is going to the New York Giants. The Giants seem to be quite talented since they managed to beat the New England Patriots in their only loss of the season. The Superbowl Champs could use some support for Eli Manning, but that’s just my opinion. The champs chose a Safety from Miami (Florida).
So, what do you think of the first round of the draft so far? Leave a comment and let us know.
