He’s in. He’s out. He’s in. He’s out. He’s in?! Brett Favre, who made a big deal earlier this year by hosting a press conference in which he balled like a baby, is speaking out again. This time he’s talking about the future of the Packers.
This guy has retired more times than Elizabeth Taylor has tied the knot. No seriously. For the past five or so years, Favre gets all emotional. He talks (or should I say whines because that’s a more accurate assessment) about how he’s going to retire. Then he shows up again and plays for the Packers. The cheeseheads just cannot seem to get rid of this guy and though they seem to like having him around, I can’t see why.
He’s old. He’s washed up. He’s not as good as he used to be. Ultimately, he’s not going to be an asset to the Packers in the way a new, younger QB could be. He’s had his shining moments and now its time to move on. I didn’t buy his little speech and tears about retiring. I called it. I said, “Oh, he’ll try and come back” and now, he is.
Favre spoke to the Biloxi Sun Harold recently and this is what he had to say about returning if the Packers came knocking on his door, begging him to come back.
“It would be hard to pass up, I guess. But three months from now, say that presents itself, I may say, you know what, I’m so glad I made that decision. I feel very comfortable in what I’m doing and my decision. Yeah, I can probably be up there doing that and playing, but again, I don’t know. It’s only speculating. I think the world of that team. I had a lot of fun, not only this year, but over my career.”
I don’t know why Favre thinks the Packers would come crawling back, but apparently he does. Apparently, he believes that he’s so important to the team that they will say, “Hey. He played for us 17 years. He’s not too old. We can’t live without him. Pleaaaase Brett come backkkk.”
Favre went on to say, “But to think that if they called me in October and told me, ‘Hey, we need you this week.’ That would be hard. I’m sure mentally, I would be refreshed. I’d be away from it for a long time. But mentally versus physically, the last thing I’d want to do is go up and it’s ‘Oh this is great’ and all that stuff and me be excited and then just flop. You just can’t show up and play.”
Yeah, no shit Sherlock. They can’t just call you up in the middle of the season and say come play a game. They either have you on the team, or they don’t. Still Favre says his current response now would be no. Yeah, that’s what he ’says’ but this is Brett Favre aka Mr. Indecisive Retirement or IR as I like to call him.
Favre did mention how he may not be that old, but he’s not a ‘bouncing’, strapping young lad anymore.
“It would be hard to go up there at 38. It was hard to stay in shape. I say that, I worked out and I worked out hard. Week in and week out, I was just drained. Finally, for the first time, I felt, not that 38 is old, but I looked around at practice and these guys are bouncing around. And I practiced every day and all the time people would ask me … `How do you do it? Inside I’m saying, ‘I have no idea.’ It’s a struggle.”
Don’t quit your current day job Brett. Those of us NFL fans who aren’t up your butthole don’t want you back. Stay retired. We’re glad to see you finally out of the league…for now.

Umm, Brett has NEVER announced his retirement before. He has considered it in recent years and always decided to come back. Since when is a guy who came in 2nd in the NFL MVP award vote “washed up”.
