Week Four - NFL Game Predictions

NFL FootballI was really happy my predictions did so well last week. I’m hoping for a repeat performance this week. While I’ve done fairly well with my picks this entire year, I want to make sure I’m not getting overly confident. That’s when I tend to mess up and pick teams on personal feelings and emotions rather on whether I believe they are going to win or not.

First, let’s check out the first three weeks of NFL picks and how I did.

Week One – 10–6
Week Two – 9–7
Week Three - 12-4

Now, let’s talk about this week. There are some interesting match ups this week. Last week was fairly predictable, with a few surprises. It’s time to see if those teams that surprised us are going to continue to do so.

It is looking to be one crazy NFL season…One surprise of the season is that the New Orleans Saints are now 0-3. How did that happen with Reggie Bush and Drew Brees on the team? Nobody’s sure, but Reggie is finally (hopefully) starting to find his groove now that he’s scored for the first time this season.

The Saints aren’t the only surprising team of the season. Detroit has done remarkably well compared to their ranking last year. Sure, they had a whopper against Philly last week, but there is hope in Detroit that the Lions won’t falter and actually have a decent season this year.

With these things in mind, let’s get on with this week’s match ups!

Houston (2-1) vs. Atlanta (0-3)

It isn’t going to take a rocket scientist to figure out that Atlanta really got screwed over this season. The Michael Vick BS has really shook up this team. That being said…I have to go with Houston. They have the better record and no rattling skeletons in their closet they need to deal with.

Winner: Houston Texans

NY Jets (1-2) vs. Buffalo Bills (0-3)

This is a hard match up. Both teams have struggled this season. Buffalo, much like Atlanta, is dealing with tragedy. With the life-threatening spinal cord injury of Bills tight end, Kevin Everett, the Bills have struggled all season. Their mind is obviously on Kevin and not on the game. With that in mind, I’m predicting another poor season for the struggling, hurt Bills. It’s sad, but true.

Winner: NY Jets

Baltimore (2-1) vs. Cleveland (1-2)

How fitting, the two teams that are kind of the same, if you really think about it, will be playing. Personally, I dislike both teams equally, but right now, with the pansy, Brady Quinn playing for benched by Cleveland, I guess I dislike Cleveland just a little more. That being said, Baltimore actually won for me last week and Cleveland lost. Let’s see if they can have a repeat performance.

Winner: Baltimore Ravens

St. Louis Rams (0-3) vs. Dallas Cowboys (3-0)

Wow, this match up is probably the easiest pick of the week. I’m not hoping nor am I predicting any type of upset. Dallas has the likes of Tony Romo and Terrell Owens and St. Louis has who? Oh yeah…nobody that’s doing their job the right way.

Winner: Dallas Cowboys

Chicago (1-2) vs. Detroit (2-1)

You know, I’m really hopeful that Detroit can pull through, shake off last week’s loss and win this one. I think that they have a great team this year and the excellent coaching has really gotten in through the player’s heads that they are winners. While I’m not sure if they can pull it off, Detroit is such a great city, I just have to have faith in the team. Besides…Rex and his Bears aren’t doing so hot this season.

Winner: Detroit Lions

Oakland (1-2) vs. Miami (0-3)

Coming off their first win of the season last week, will give Oakland the confidence to slaughter the worst team in the NFL.

Winner: Oakland Raiders

Green Bay (3-0) vs. Minnesota (1-2)

I’m not going to jink Green Bay or Brett Favre’s winning record this season. I think this really is going to be his last year and I think he’s going to make the most of it.

Winner: Green Bay Packers

Tampa Bay (2-1) vs. Carolina (2-1)

This is a difficult choice since both teams have done okay this year. I think I’m going to have to go with the Bucs for this one though. It’s just a gut feeling I have that they will win.

Winner: Tampa Bay Bucs

Seattle (2-1) vs. San Francisco (2-1)

It can be difficult to have teams that are playing on a similar keel, to determine who is going to win when they play each other. While they may have the same record, the teams they’ve beaten differ. Seattle beat the fairly decent Bucs, but lost to Arizona. San Francisco beat Arizona. Still I think Seattle might have a slight edge over the 49ers. I think this is one game you will want to watch this week!

Winner: Seattle Seahawks

Pittsburgh (3-0) vs. Arizona (1-2)

I’m thinking that this game is going to be predictable. I haven’t been in the mood to call an upset yet. I’m sticking with Pittsburgh. Their team is on fire!

Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers

Denver (2-1) vs. Indianapolis (3-0)

I don’t think Manning is going to blemish his record by a loss to Denver. Yes, the Broncos have a decent team, but Manning has a title to uphold and he’s doing a bang up job of trying to keep it.

Winner: Indianapolis Colts

Kansas City (1-2) vs. San Diego (1-2)

The Chargers team is a mess, but Kansas City has sucked this entire season. I think that if any team is going to come through, it’s going to be San Diego, unless the coaching messes them up. Still, I’ll take my chances.

Winner: San Diego Chargers

Philadelphia (1-2) vs. NY Giants (1-2)

These two somewhat enemies have both tried their best. It hasn’t been good enough. With Philly beating the “nearly on-fire” Lions, I think they have a much better chance of winning this game then the Giants.

Winner: Philadelphia Eagles

New England (3-0) vs. Cincinnati (1-2)

I like Cincinnati, but ever since Tom Brady’s ex has denied him the right to see his new son, he’s had a vengeful attitude while on the field. I like it, and think its a great way to win a football game. I’m not messing with Brady…he’s going to win it.

Winner: New England Patriots

Bye Teams: Tennessee, New Orleans, Washington, Jacksonville

So, I’m predicting no big surprises this week. What do you think? Feel free to leave your picks by posting in the comment area.
